Jahshaka Start-Up Screen Competition!

Are you a great graphic designer or a hot animator or compositor? Enter the Jahshaka Start-Up Screen Competition and show your skills off to the world! You can also win some great prizes while you’re at it including a Intel Mac Mini Core-Duo, a Video iPod or a Play Station Portable!

We are looking for a cool bit of animation and some blazingly hot graphic design to serve as the start-up screen for Jahshaka 2.0 RC4 —and we want you to create it!  Your submission can be animated in either 2D or 3D and the focus should be on cool graphic design and simple layer-based animation to bring it to life!

In addition to the satisfaction of helping to create free software, you also have a chance to win some cool gear and the winner will take home:

1st place - a Duo Core Mac Mini
2nd place - a Video iPod
3rd place – a Sony PSP



Rules & Guidelines!

Since this is a startup screen and we want to keep it light there are a few special requirements… (like we said its just a startup screen not X Men 3!).

1. You can go to town on the animation itself but it has to be short a smooth – around 3 seconds long with a freeze on the last frame. (sometimes less is more!)

2. You need to limit the elements in your final submission to a small number of layers and if you use 3D models they have to have image based textures so we can easily recreate them. (you can also just bake your layers down for your submission)

3. No media clips or video layers are allowed as elements! You need to rely on those design skills to make things look good!

4. You will need to submit the finished animation as well as all the individual elements you used to create it as part of your entry.

5. You need to incorporate the Jahshaka logo in the final freeze frame at the end of the animation (we have 2 to choose from but you can also create your own derivative)

Entries

All entries should be rendered out at 400x250 as either a avi, divx or quicktime along with 3 screenshots of start frame, mid frame and end from. you may also enter as many times as you would like.

We also encourage you to follow the open source philosophy and create your animation with the help of our users by letting us follow your work as you create it in our submission forums!

Submissions

The submission period runs for a month, beginning June 15th.  At the end of the contest we will pick the top pieces and put them up online for our users to choose the winners!

Final submissions have been extended to july 25th
