The Jahshaka Project is Back! By admin Published: January 17, 2008 PrintEmail
We are pleased to announce that the jahshaka project has been liberated from its evil benefactors and is now free to get back to its roots and start building the high end visual effects tools it set out to deliver!
For the past 2 years our project has been held up by a group of sponsors who had alternative goals when they took the project over, and these goals have resulted in very little progress and traction. As a result, instead of delivering the V3 that we set out to build, we were only just able to get Jahplayer v3 out the door.
That being said, Jahplayer V3 is a great tool and a great foundation for us moving ahead. It based on awesome technology, the openlibraries, and is written in python so it's very open and fully scriptable. It is also besed on a great MySql based media management system. Having this base in place will allow us to move ahead quite rapidly as we complete the visual effects, compositing and editing modules that will take us to the first V3 release of jahshaka.
Fortunately, we have the advantage that the openlibraries are now very mature and are being used by quite a few developers and projects. Since they are the core technology that Jahshaka is built upon, this allows our core technology to mature on its own as we build out the user interface thats needed for our tools.
It was no easy task to liberate the project, giving it away to sponsors with a lot of cash and seemingly positive goals was a lot easier, and as we work towards getting jahshaka back on track there is a lot of infrastructure thet needs to be put in place before we will start to really pick up the pace.
The first major steps, however, are already in place. We have set up a on site wiki to host manuals, tutorials and training material - pretty much anything related to the use of jahshaka. The wiki is open and easy to update and is available to any registered user who wants to get involved.
We have also set up a developer portal for developers who wish to help out with the actual coding of jahshaka. This is not just limited to hard core geeks like myself! It hosts the project specifications, user interface guidelines, and the 300 year plan!
If you want to get involved in jahshaka development and join the team, the please head over to our 'sign up' forum and let us know! We are recruiting everything from developers to designers and people to help us nail down the feature-set and specification.
We still have a few more weeks of organization to get through before actual coding begins, during this time we will release updates on how things are going and links to the specifications for the jahshaka v3 application so that our users can assist in the specifications, the plan and the look and feel of the final tools. We have a lot of great documentation in place, we just need to clean it up and opoen it up!
We thank you for your continued interest in the jahshaka project and look forward to delivering the worlds best, free, open source digital content creation suite with your help and assistance!
